Rooting Rituals of the Northern Long Tongue Shrike.

The male Shrike will seek out the blooming horny red cactus flower. Using his large tongue, the creature will drink litres of rancid slime oozing from the stigma.

When the pollen has passed through his digestive tract a powerful beam of light will shoot from his cloaca signalling to females flying overhead he is seeking rooting.
